Reston Concerts on the Town – The Congress
The weekly summer concert series presents alt-country, rock & roll, and soul with The Congress. Bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets and enjoy live outdoor music at the Pavilion. Free. Rain or shine. Presented by Reston Town Center and Reston Town Center Association on Saturdays, June through August. Alcohol permitted at restaurants only. See the season’s full schedule at restontowncenter.com/concerts
The Congress has a sound that’s equal parts rock & roll, old-school soul music, and outlaw country. Their sound is simultaneously modern, yet vintage. To complement their inventive original songs, the band’s second full-length album—The Loft Tapes— a collection of 60s and 70s soul covers released last year, pays homage to its musical influences.
Founded by Scott Lane and Jonathan Meadows in Richmond, VA, the Congress is anchored by Jonathan’s soul tenor vocals and Scott’s immersive guitar licks. Keyboardist Chris “Bernie” Speasmaker masterfully accents each tune with everything from throaty Leslie riffs and New Orleans Dixiecrat piano to pounding electro-funk lines. Denver native and conservatory-trained Mark Levy holds down the drums with elegant precision and explosive dynamism. With burgeoning success from live shows across the country, the Congress is looking forward to its first Reston appearance.
